There are certain foods that just say summer to me, like fresh corn on the cob, watermelon, a warm tomato straight out of the garden, and homemade ice cream!

This recipe comes from my mom's cousin. It's easy to make, doesn't have any eggs in it, and tastes so good!!! If you need to make a smaller batch, all you need to do is cut the recipe in half. You will need to follow the instructions for your ice cream maker. I like to serve this with lots of different toppings for our ice cream like candy, cookies, and fruit.

Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

6 cups heavy cream

6 cups whole milk

3 cups sugar

1⁄4 t. salt

4 T. Vanilla

Mix ingredients together and pour into your canister and allow it to chill in the fridge for 30 minutes. For the rest of the instructions, you will need to follow according to your manufacturer's instructions.

You will also likely need Rock Salt and ice to pack around the ice cream maker.

Transfer the finished ice cream to an airtight container and place it in the freezer.

Enjoy!!!

Optional add-in 1-2 c drained chopped fruit nuts, crushed cookies, etc.

*** For a lower calorie version you can adjust the milk/cream ratio.

Makes approx 2 qts. (If you want less, you can cut this recipe in half, this is the amount I make every time because everyone always loves it!)
